A Pilot Project Exploring Medical Students’ Cultural Intelligence Regarding AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) Health

Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 107A

Abstract

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) represent diverse origins, languages, and cultures from over 40 different countries and distinct geographical regions such as East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Aggregate data distorts important nuances and perpetuates suboptimal health outcomes experienced by different AANHPI groups. An online curriculum was designed to highlight AANHPI health issues through an integrative lens of historical trauma, intersectionality, cultural competency, and social determinants of health. This pilot study explored the implementation of the online curriculum through participants responses to reflective questions as they engaged with the on-line curricular modules.
