Understanding Engagement and Academic Achievement for Autistic Students: A Systematic Review

Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

We describe a systematic review and synthesis of primary studies reporting academic engagement and achievement among autistic students in Grades K-12. Our exhaustive literature search yielded 22,622 reports for eligibility screening according to inclusion criteria. From these studies, we identified 19 reports eligible for inclusion. We then coded studies for characteristics pertaining to participants, measures of engagement and achievement, settings, and publication status. We report these findings in a narrative synthesis. Findings across studies reveal research conducted across age groups, and a variety of measures for academic engagement and achievement.
