The purpose of this study is to understand the dynamics of learner-learner interaction within inquiry-based discussions by visualizing the interaction patterns using social network analysis. Researchers examined the network attributes when graduate students participated in inquiry-based discussions designed with the Practical Inquiry Model (PIM)-based questions and non-PIM questions. Researchers also explored how the design of PIM-based questions impacted students' participation in inquiry-based discussions. The findings revealed that purposefully designed inquiry-based discussions can create equally distributed, cohesive, and proportionally consistent networks. Moreover, the PIM-based questions can create longer and deeper conversations between students than the non-PIM questions. This study’s findings can help researchers and practitioners design a well-distributed network where all students can participate.
