Media and Information Literacy is a required competency globally yet it likely remains understanding it passively as a consumer rather than critical use of new media content in an active way. Pre-service teachers are in the stage preparing digital materials into learning contents but exposed to new media culture without critical use. This study is an attempt to find a solution to increase teacher readiness by examining twenty Taiwanese preservice teachers’ perceived new media literacy and their critical participation. Primary findings found that low critical perception in the new media literacy scale could still construct new opportunities for them to increase their critical participation after engaging in new media environments.
