The purpose of this scoping review was to provide an overview of the application of critical quantitative inquiry in the education research literature. A search was conducted in four bibliographic databases to identify critical quantitative studies. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a final pool of 24 studies was coded and analyzed in the present scoping review. We found that most critical quantitative educational research used critical theories, such as Critical Race Theory, to analyze quantitative data about educational inequities. Those specific studies using Critical Race Theory fell under the QuantCrit umbrella. We conclude with implications for the role QuantCrit research can play in overcoming structural inequalities in education in the future.
