Abstract

This study presents the results of a critical participatory teacher professional development program using a perspective of peacebuilding that intersects with racial justice. Our aim was to work collaboratively and horizontally with teachers to explore ways in which critical pedagogies and critical literacies could serve as tools to facilitate reflection and transformation around racial intersectional issues that disrupt peacebuilding in the classroom and school communities. In this paper, we share findings that focus on teachers’ learning and transformation of their pedagogical practices in ways that are meaningful and relevant to create safe learning environments where children’s voices are heard, and critical issues such as racial justice, xenophobia, environmental justice, among others, are fore fronted to construct peace and Buen Vivir.
