Increasing literature talks about the growing adoption of mixed methods (Creswell, 2009; Plano Clark, 2010). However, there is paucity of literature on African students’ learning experience of mixed methods and their perceptions of adopting mixed methods. To address this void in scholarly literature, our qualitative inquiry explored African students’ experience of learning and intention to adopt mixed methods. Qualitative interview was the primary data collection approach. Findings revealed that participants actively learned about mixed methods and improved their conceptual understanding of this methodology through taking mixed methods courses and reviewing mixed methods literature. This study provided details about how African graduate students have learned mixed methods at a U.S. graduate school and how they perceived adoption of mixed methods in Africa.
