This study focuses on critical issues related to Indonesia’s current policy on ELT entitled The Prototype Curriculum. This post-pandemic curriculum is viewed as a step toward the Independent Curriculum set to be in place by 2024. The existing scholarly literature on this curriculum neither highlights issues of social justice nor the key theories/approaches related to social justice education. To fill the gap, this study gives some fresh insight into the approach of ideology, pedagogy, and resources from theoretical arguments rather than data-based studies. It is hoped through this direction, stakeholders can navigate the Independent Curriculum through social justice perspective. Furthermore, this paper can also be viable for other countries that frame ELT and advocate social justice in similar state policies.
