Abstract

This study explores how girl feminists are represented, and how they transgress the boundaries of fixed images around makeup. Dichotomous discourses around teenagers’ agency classify teenagers into passive or active citizens and regard girls simply as individual, autonomous, and volitional subjects. Based on agential realism, I aim to understand their agencies not as a result of a fixed role but as a phenomenon emerging from intra-action. The research explores how teenage feminists act in the online sphere, school, home, and everyday life in the Tal-Corset movement held in South Korea from an ethnographic approach. Teenage feminists keep questioning pre-existing boundaries, but rather deconstruct and reconstruct the boundaries of girls' agencies.
