Factors That Predict Staff Turnover in Early Childhood Education Programs

Thu, April 11, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This study examines staff turnover in early education programs using assessment data from a recently launched, robust quality-improvement initiative. It examines various administrative practices in early childhood programs that may be affecting staff turnover. These administrative practices involve management topics such as leadership, fiscal management, human resources, personnel cost and allocation, and more. A multiple linear regression was conducted to determine if these topics significantly predict staff turnover in early childhood programs. It was found that assessment subscales such as fiscal management and personnel cost allocation, as well as specific items within these subscales, can significantly predict trends in staff turnover in early childhood education programs.
