Reading attitudes are found to be closely related to reading performance. This paper aims to dig into internal structures and properties of reading related attitudes items in Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, including the enjoyment of reading, self-concept of reading and perception of difficulty of reading literacy items through the lens of a four-building-block framework using unidimensional and multidimensional Rasch models. Results show that (1) three dimensions were supported in terms of reliability and validity; (2) Regarding fairness, Differential Item Functioning (DIF) were found between genders for specific items. This paper provides insights on the item design for large-scale assessments to ensure gender equity.
