Pandemic learning loss has complicated an already challenging teaching career. Stories of teachers leaving and burnout for those who remain are pervasive. Everyone seeks innovative solutions to keep teachers in the classroom and relieve their strain. The Next Education Workforce (NEW) model reimagines the typical classroom of an isolated teacher in a single class and instead enables teams of teachers, with varying experience and expertise, to share students. This research summarizes findings from an early implementation of NEW in one large district. We use a mixed-methods approach, leveraging data from surveys, classroom observations, and focus groups. Our analysis finds that NEW teachers collaborate more, are more satisfied with their jobs, and report increased interactions with their students.
