Reexamining the Chicano Education Pipeline: The Progress of Our Gente in the State of Colorado (Poster 21)

Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This proposal is a critical analysis of the Chicano education pipeline (Yosso, 2006) and evaluates the progress of the Latine community since 2000, with particular attention to education advancement since 2016. We aim to examine the experiences and trajectories of Latine students in the current educational landscape on Colorado. We highlight the progress Latine students are making in education, specifically in the greater Denver metro area. Yosso's Chicano education pipeline (p. 3, 2006) guided our enrollment and graduation statistics as we closely reviewed if there has been progress in graduation rates. We utilized data mining (Merriam and Tisdel, 2014) and platicas (Delgado Bernal, 2020)to examine Latine students' challenges, barriers, and successes to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for Colorado's Latine community.
