Special Education Service Delivery for Students With Complex Support Needs: A Rural Case Study

Thu, April 11, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This session includes a comprehensive description of special education service delivery in one rural school district located in Colorado. Presenters will share findings from a summative content analysis of IEPs. Findings have revealed most students with disabilities within the district have inclusive placements or spend 80% or more of their day within the general education classroom, but students with disabilities who are considered to have complex support needs (CSN) are not afforded the same inclusive placements or access to general education. Implications for best practices to include students with disabilities who require CSN in general education settings in rural areas will be discussed.
