Seamless Transition: Exploring the Impacts of Coursework on Post-Graduation Plans for International and Domestic Students (Poster 12)

Sun, April 14, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This research examines how coursework impacts post-graduation plans for international and domestic senior students across diverse disciplines and institutions, using the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT). It analyzes coursework emphases, immediate post-graduation plans, intentions for related fields, and preparation through NSSE data. Regression analyses explore coursework relationships with post-graduation preparedness for international students (IS) and domestic students (DS). Findings: 51% of IS plan on full-time employment, 32% intend on graduate/professional school, and 82% aim to work in related fields. IS exhibit stronger links between coursework and confidence in post-graduation skills than DS. The study addresses research gaps, providing insights to enhance institutional support, and career preparedness, and align academic pursuits with future careers.
