Food Insecurity in Transition: Unanticipated Struggles of the Sophomore Slump

Sat, April 13, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 103C

Abstract

This qualitative, constructionist study employs the concept of liminality to explore the struggle to afford food in periods of college-going transition, namely the progression to sophomore year. Our preliminary analysis of interviews with 35 students highlights how campus structures and policies function as barriers to food access, requiring additional student navigation to meet their food needs.
