Abstract

In conceptualizing the model that motivate Korean American PI at home and in school, we mainly followed the model of Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler (HDS, 1995, 1997, 2005) that has been tested with Hispanic American (Walker et al., 2011), African American, and immigrant parents but not yet with Asian American parents. Our research examined school context variables influencing Asian American PI at home and in school that have been reported to be differ by ethnicity. In total of134 completed questionnaires were coded. Prior to the regression analysis, two separate Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted. Teachers’ initiation of asking parental involvement at home was a powerful factor in facilitating minority parental involvement in school.
