This research applies many-facet Rasch model to investigate the impact of raters’ Big-five personality on their severity in self- and peer-assessment of second-language English writing, enriching relevant literature in the context of second language English self- and peer-assessment of writing in China. 918 ratings from 153 participants who self-rated their writing and peer-rated 5 writings each are reliable. Student raters have the same level of severity with teacher raters. Significant relationship was not found between rater leniency and their Big-five personality. Therefore in this pilot study, rater personality has no significant impact on rater severity. Furthermore, the influence of competence on the relationship between Big Five and rater severity can be ignored.
