This exploratory qualitative study aims to explore the utilization of ChatGPT, a predominant generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) for a research design course. This roundtable session will be focused on the ethical use of ChatGPT and the emerging messy realities for qualitative researchers. An experimental qualitative research course was designed incorporating ChatGPT assignments. The data from doctoral students (n= 17) will explore integrating ChatGPT into qualitative research design endeavors. The data analysis from the two surveys, semi-structured interviews, and course artifacts is undertaken simultaneously using AtalsTi. The objective is to foster dialogue among researchers, educators, and professionals in the field of qualitative research regarding the ethical and responsible use of GenAI tools in doctoral research.
