This study explores the experiences of Turkish academics working in the UK higher education sector, shedding light on how their intersecting characteristics shape their experiences. Utilizing an exploratory qualitative design and the intersectionality approach, I conducted 50 in-depth interviews with UK-based Turkish academics. Thematic analysis revealed a dichotomy in experiences, with some participants who "pass the whiteness threshold" enjoying positive treatment and opportunities while others faced racism, discrimination, and isolation. Findings contribute to the broader discourse on international scholars' experiences and unveil issues surrounding BME categorization in the UK. This research calls for enhanced inclusivity, recognizing the diversity of non-BME migrant academics, and fostering equitable practices in the UK academic environment.
