Higher education spaces can foster belonging as a continual situated practice (Gravett & Ajjawi, 2022). This qualitative study uses photostory as an integrated pedagogical and methodological approach to study place, space and belonging in higher education. Picturing Place is a class-based collaborative inquiry project completed in the spring 2023 semester at Florida’s largest public research university. Thirty-nine photographs were taken during the semester (16 weeks). Five short photostories were co-produced from a refined subcorpus of 34 photographs. The “two-dimensional narrative” produced through the Picturing Place photostory project documents higher education policy change in Florida during the DeSantis gubernatorial era. Recommendations for future applications of photostory as an integrated pedagogical-methodological practice in graduate education are introduced.
