This project considers how critical qualitative research methods of educational journey mapping and collective counterstorytelling might support researchers in understanding the ways Teachers of Color are staying in the classroom and the environmental conditions and holistic supports that allow them to persist. The study involved a series of interviews and focus group sessions with two veteran teachers of Color to learn from how they map their experiences in education and what sustains them. In combination, the methods allowed for a more nuanced understanding of how teachers of Color critically reflected on their past and current experiences while also considering possibilities for educational futures that are supportive and sustaining.
