Abstract

Technological advances continually propel the pedagogical pendulum into motion as educators determine how to best integrate technology in the classroom. Recent advances related to ChatGPT has spurred discussion concerning plagiarism and developing critical thinking skills. This paper intends to provide guidance for ChatGPT implementation through a John Dewey lens. One of Dewey’s hallmarks included leveraging student experience when developing and implementing curriculum. When analyzing ChatGPT, educators should think in kind as AI programs are part of our world moving forward and we must prepare today’s students for the workplace world of tomorrow. Teaching students the process of using AI ethically in today’s classrooms to enhance 21st Century learning skills including critical thinking, inquiry and logic is vital to future success.
