Abstract

Creativity is globally acknowledged as a crucial skill that individuals require to adapt to an increasingly complex society. The Runco Ideational Behavior Scale (RIBS) is a widely used instrument for assessing creative ideations, which theorizes that creative ideas are products of creative thinking. In this study, we adapted and validated a 21-item Chinese version of the RIBS using a sample of 719 fourth-graders and 612 eighth-graders. Our results confirmed a two-factor structure with good internal consistency reliabilities and structural validity. Furthermore, we tested the measurement invariance of the RIBS and established its applicability to both boys and girls, as well as to elementary and secondary school students. Our study lays the groundwork for cross-cultural investigations of students’ creative ideations.
