This on-going study investigates community-based models of research and learning and how these can be used to develop equitable and reciprocal university-community partnerships and help universities and academic researchers rethink their role within community settings. The study focuses on projects that rely on participatory and/or collaborative processes and premise local knowledge as a way of addressing specific issues, and that take place in diverse contexts. In particular, this paper is interested in how the concept/framework of University Social Responsibility, which has been gaining momentum in Taiwan, can inform university-community partnerships in the United States.
