In this study, we analyzed how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) faculty conceptualize inclusive hiring practices for teaching focused faculty. Transcripts from group interviews were analyzed to determine how current faculty search committee practices align with inclusive approaches that support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. We found that committee members focus on inclusive approaches that are policy oriented such as the composition of the committee. Additionally, we identified how search committee members conceptualize different aspects of an inclusive search process. Findings suggest that a key area to be further developed for search committees is to include expertise on DEI issues as a precursor to serving on a search committee that wants to utilize inclusive hiring practices.
