Changes in student demographics pose complex and complicated challenges for district superintendents. They need to be equipped with a wide range of leadership competencies to handle these issues well. District superintendents without appropriate leadership competencies could cause turmoil and harm their districts, students, parents, and local communities. One way to ensure that district superintendents possess such leadership competencies is for local school boards to explicitly list them as desired leadership competencies in the job posts for their superintendency positions in the recruitment and hiring process. This study explores the content of the job posts and examines the relationships between district characteristics and the content using a machine learning-based latent code identification method proposed by Canche (2023).
