The objectives of this study were to: validate an instrument to evaluate self-regulated learning (SRL) in MOOCs, identify whether SRL and other factors such time expected to invest in the course and ager predict completion of a MOOC.
A cross-sectional design was used. Participants enrolled in a MOOC to develop Socio-emotional skills. 497 students participated (age M = 24.28 years, 66% female). The results indicated that SRL was not a predictor of MOOC completion. However, time planned in the course was significantly associated with MOOC completion. Older participants were more likely to plan to spend more time in the course, be motivated, and perceive the course as helpful in their daily life.
