This qualitative case study examined how students perceived ambiguity, uncertainty, and complexity when confronted with dissonance that led to the crossroads phase of self-authorship. Further it uncover strategies students employ to establish a secure internal foundation that supports self-authored identity development and responsible media and information literacy while simultaneously meeting the needs of others. Overall, the study underscores the need to focus on enhancing learners' critical media and information literacy skills, as these are foundational competencies for the formation of identities in today's media-rich, diverse society. Moreover, research in this area is necessary because it addresses the vulnerabilities of young adults to disinformation and stereotypes perpetuated by the media, particularly within the community college context.
