In this study, we conducted a systematic literature review on out-of-school time (OST) programs for low-income adolescents that focused on promoting social and emotional development. Following best practices for systematic reviews set forth by PRISMA, we conducted a search and reviewed articles for inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 17 articles were included. We present findings related to our three research questions: 1) who is served by these OST programs?; 2) what are the program goals and activities?; and 3) what are the outcomes? Findings show that OST can be an innovative and effective setting for youth social and emotional development, but gaps remain in the research. We close by providing recommendations for research, practice, and policy.
