Launching a Research-Practice Partnership: Explicating Diverse Understandings of Research Use in Practice

Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The WT Grant Foundation has defined RPPs as “long-term mutually beneficial collaborations that promote the production and use of rigorous research (2019). As university faculty working with district partners in the launch phase of a new RPP, we are aware of the oft cited disconnect between research and practice. Thus, we examine the ways district leaders currently understand and use research to inform practice and how that use is similar and/or different from university faculty understandings. Findings include a discussion on the definitions and purposes of research, the tools and systems of research, and challenges faced. Implications for attending to multiple conceptions of research when developing RPPS include the development and incorporation of local data systems as integral to change.
