While research has illuminated many elements of effective instruction for multilingual learners (MLs), research on language program outcomes remains relatively sparse. As this population increases, and as MLs continue to underperform in national assessments, the need for understanding program efficacy grows. The current study uses an explanatory sequential mixed methodology to analyze ML and non-ML growth scores over seven years in one school district. Preliminary quantitative results show MLs achieving more than double the growth on ELA and Math achievement scores than their non-ML peers. As analyses are on-going, we hope roundtable discussions will refine our growth modeling and analyses of instructional observation and teacher interview data. The study contributes to understanding of educational opportunities and possibilities for MLs.
