Our study examines extended reality experiences and surrounding materials (videos, quizzes, discussion prompts) situated within four massive open online courses. We adapt an educational design framework focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for use in our research context. Using qualitative content analysis methods, we evaluate experiences across five dimensions: community, agency, representation, equity/access, and pedagogies of care. We present patterns derived from our analysis and highlight areas where equitable and inclusive design elements were most evident and where they were lacking. Findings show the importance of studying extended reality media and surrounding curriculum materials together and their potential to complement each other. We highlight design considerations useful for developing equitable and inclusive XR-enhanced online learning experiences.
