Though often presented as a multicultural paradise, it is become evident that Canada is not free from anti-blackness. This paper explores education policy that names anti-blackness and its efforts to “confront” its manifestations in schools in the Greater Toronto Area. This project seeks to understand the extent to which Black mothers have been included and involved in the development of these education policies related to anti-blackness. Through individual conversation and sista circles, Black mothers describe their experiences in relation to educational policies that aim to address anti-black racism. Ultimately, this study positions Black mothers as “intellectual resources” who are knowledgeable about their children and can provide valuable insight into how to address anti-blackness in public schooling.
