This paper utilizes collaborative autoethnography and intergroup dialogue through bell hooks
conceptualizations of love to explore the tensions and possibilities of love and coalition building
between Black women and men in the academy. Findings suggest that tensions of
communication, accountability and possibilities for self-disclosure are at the center of Black
relationships in the academy.
