Nurturing effective leaders for social justice is crucial for transforming the landscape of education and absence of women in upper echelons of higher education leadership has been highlighted by researchers. This paper aims at studying experiences of Indian women leaders in higher education to address equity concerns and underrepresentation of women in leadership positions. A qualitative case study was conducted on 6 Indian women higher education leaders to explore perspectives of women leaders. Results presented emergence of two themes i.e barriers faced by women leaders and creating pathways to navigate complex maze of leadership that highlight the need for developing innovative strategies and relevant practices for encouraging diversity, inclusion and equity in the educational leadership ladder from the gender perspective.
