Black Liberatory & Educationally Subversive (BLES) spaces are dedicated to the possibility for Black educators to freely transmit messages of racial uplift to Black students and Black students to freely emote and demonstrate their ways of knowing despite the presence of systemic anti-Blackness. Centering students' experiences as participants in a Black woman-run education non-profit, this paper unpacks the ways in which Black students experience BLES spaces in comparison to their daily experiences in suburban high schools in a Northern California school district. The paper closes with a discussion on the furtherance of BLESsed spaces and the futurity of Black education.
