First Steps Toward Building Collaboration Among Stakeholders Within a Teacher Education Program

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The 2024 AERA Annual Meeting theme calls for us to re-think how we do education in order to dismantle current inequities that run rampant through our systems. Previous research has pushed us to re-imagine teacher education (TE) in a way that moves beyond the typical divide that exists between university programs and PK-12 schools to collaboratively develop a new knowledge base (Kretchmar & Zeichner, 2017; Souto-Manning, 2019). But disrupting the status quo in TE requires the engagement of all stakeholders. This paper uses a case study approach to examine one university’s first steps at building a community with all university and PK-12 stakeholders involved in TE in an effort to work towards developing a more equity-focused TE program.
