The purpose of this study is to examine critical art approaches as a pedagogical tool for interdisciplinary use in Ethnic studies, and to recontextualize them as essential critical tools within art education. This research reviews and builds on visual arts approaches and themes developed in a Art and Visual Culture workshop for interdisciplinary Ethnic studies educators. Taking inspiration from Duchamp’s Creative Act (Sanouillet & Peterson, 1973), educators can utilize their students' cultural wealth (Yosso, 2005) to center student experiences, encourage discussion, and construct meaning. The learning process is ongoing and it is our responsibility as educators to continually grow our praxis in response to and for our increasingly diverse student populations.
