Thu, April 11, 9:00 to 10:30am, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 3, Room 302

Abstract

This study aimed to understand the mental health issues associated with various sociodemographic intersectionality among graduate students in STEM during COVID-19. Using the survey data collected from 259 STEM students, the main effect and the interaction effect of gender and racial/ethnic marginality, as well as the language/cultural marginality, were tested. A series of factorial ANOVAs found a significant difference between female and male graduate students in STEM regarding perceived helplessness. There was a significant main effect of racial/ethnic marginality on the levels of self-efficacy and life satisfaction. Moreover, the levels of life satisfaction between domestic students and international students were significantly different.
