In-Service Teachers’ Online Lesson Design: What Instructional Methods Are Included In K–6 Asynchronous Online Lessons?

Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

With the emergence of online learning, the need to learn the processes of online design and delivery at various levels of K-12 education increased. Literature to date shows that there is a gap in the exploration of primary online education. Especially, learning about elementary online lesson design will help to understand in-service teachers’ decisions, and choices, and will serve as a good base for pre-service teacher education. To learn about instructional methods selected for K-6 asynchronous online lesson design, in this study, we analyzed 140 lesson plans and 140 instructional materials created by 14 teachers. The findings of the study will contribute to the literature in the field of primary online education and inform in-service teachers, teacher trainers, and educators.
