Phases of Constructing Solids’ Nets and Concrete and Virtual YouTube Activities Related to Each Phase

Abstract

Some tasks require learners simultaneously activate and use their knowledge and skills related to visualization, forming composite shapes and constructing geometric shapes. However, there is not any research on properties of concrete and virtual activities suitable for learners’ development levels requiring the activation of those three fields at the same time. In this study, which was carried out using mixed methods-grounded theory, the qualitative and quantitative data were obtained from 419 YouTube videos. With data analysis, five developmental phases related to the construction of the nets of solids and concrete and virtual activities suitable for those developmental phases were determined. The phases were: Preservation of the holistic structure, stage before part construction, part construction, construction and advanced construction.
