The overarching question of this paper is what impact does an “abolitionist sanctuary-centered middle school afterschool club curriculum have on youth and facilitators participating in the club? In the context of the inextricably entangled pandemics of COVID-19, structural racism and climate disaster sanctuary is absolutely necessary. In the paper, we, members of JP, begin by elaborating on our abolitionist sanctuary as part of Latine Praxis. We then turn to the question of impact, examining how afterschool club participants experience the Nourishing Sanctuary curriculum created for them and how the curriculum shapes thought and action. We argue that our sanctuary approach invites participants to engage in practices of healing, expression and resistance as part of collective liberation.
