BlackinSTEM: Racial Justice for Black STEM Undergraduates (Poster 6)

Sun, April 14, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 115B

Abstract

Many Black STEM education scholars call out and seek to address the pervasiveness of
anti-Blackness across postsecondary STEM contexts (e.g., Madkins et al., 2022; McGee, 2020;
Morton, 2023). BlackinSTEM, a collaborative project led by Black scholars, seeks to understand
what racial justice means to Black STEM undergraduates across the US. This poster highlightshow the Texas site engages this critical work amid the current sociopolitical climate (e.g.,anti-trans/DEI legislation; Dey, 2023; Melhado & Nguyen, 2023). It reveals how researchers’positionalities, methodologies, and praxis with local communities matter for Black
undergraduates’ educational futures and the fight for racial justice.
