We propose a conceptual framework for equipping Black girls with the necessary critical media literacy (CML) skills to recognize, decode, and successfully deconstruct the negative media messaging to develop a positive Black female identity. Utilizing the Critical Literacies Advancement Model (CLAM) as a foundation, we argue that critical theories and methodologies can help in terms of developing various critical, nontraditional literacies that promote, advance, and protect Black girlhood identities.
