Montessori Adolescent Competencies: Shared Expectations for Adult Learning

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Our scholarship of teaching and learning captures three years of intensive work on competencies for educators who educate 12 - 18 year old youth. These co-constructed competencies articulating what adult educators working with students of this age should know and be able to do are shared in the context of Montessori teacher preparation. Intentional design of assessments to curate data informed learner experiences are explored. The value of linkages between competencies, assessment data and program improvement are presented from a Montessori instructor/course designer, organizational administrative lead, psychometrician and community-engaged scholar perspectives. Inquiry into the impact of this work is articulated and a call to action for co-construct educational possibilities for, and with, adolescents in Montessori informs implications of this work.
