This design-based research explores AI text generator usage among college students completing assignments. Guided by Bloom's taxonomy, the research question examines six cognitive levels: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. A content analysis was employed to examine ChatGPT use declaration forms submitted by 51 students enrolled in a communication course. The findings reveal that most of the students (N=21) primarily used ChatGPT for "evaluation" purposes, to enhance the accuracy of their writing, and for "remembering" purposes (N=19), to search for the definitions of concepts and terminologies. The study underscores the significance of responsible and transparent AI usage training and proposes the design of an AI literacy module to use these tools effectively in diverse academic settings.
