Immigrant families go through difficult times in relation to maintaining their heritage language and culture due to the domination of the English language and the educational policies that prioritize the English language in the US. However, little is known about how their language ideologies and practices evolve over time in response to these circumstances, especially as they send children for school and interact with the educational policies and programs on a regular basis. In this autoethnography, I draw data from my personal diaries, audio/video recording of family interactions, and artifacts to share shifting language ideologies of my family as we navigate multiple languages, cultures and identities and think about the education and life for our son as immigrant parents.
