Student Learning With SME (Subject Matter Expert)-Created Learning Objects in a Large Health Science Class (Poster 45): Division C - Section 3b: Technology-Based Environments, 3:31 PM

Abstract

Using a one-short convenience sample mixed-methods design, the researchers investigated how student learning was associated with their perception of instructor-created learning objects (LOs) in a large-enrollment health science class (n=471). Kay and Knaack’s (2008) Learning Object Evaluation Scale for Students (LOES-S) was adopted for measuring the independent variables, with student final grades as the dependent variable. Learning objects (LOs) are web-based interactive tools that can provide inclusive and accessible possibilities for engagement, assessment, and feedback (Kay & Knaack, 2009). In collaboration with instructional designers, the course instructor used H5P to create >100 LOs teaching discipline-specific concepts and processes. This paper presents student learning with these H5P LOs and is significant for furthering discipline-specific collaborative instructional design.
