Teacher Educators' Views on AI in Preservice Teacher Education

Fri, April 12, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Room 204ABC

Abstract

Studies rapidly increased in integrating GenAI tools into education, with the growing effect of GenAI technologies in almost every aspect of society. However, educational research predominantly focuses on the in-service teachers' and students' perspectives and implementations of using GenAI in education. There is a notable lack of studies addressing teacher educators, who shape future teachers and, indirectly, future students by educating pre-service teachers. This study aims to understand teacher educators' perspectives on GenAI technologies, their use in course design, and to what extent they let pre-service teachers use these. Although the data collection process is ongoing, it is anticipated that data will be collected from eight teacher educators through semi-structured interviews. The data will be analyzed using qualitative methods.
